Lake Erie is the shallowest of the Great Lakes, averaging just 62 feet deep, and it runs about 241 miles end to end. This map follows it from Detroit and Toledo past Sandusky, Cleveland and Erie to Buffalo, with Ontario's north shore across the top and the Lake Erie islands off Sandusky cut right out of the maple.

How we make it

The land is layered maple, laser-cut along the shoreline and engraved with the cities, towns and highways. Underneath, the water is hand-painted blue with the lake's depth contours scored in, so the shoreline casts a real shadow. Then we frame it in 1/2" stained walnut. Every map is cut, painted and assembled by hand in our Newark, NY shop.
