The Thousand Islands, cut in real wood

This is where the St. Lawrence River leaves Lake Ontario: from Kingston and Wolfe Island down past Gananoque, Clayton and Wellesley Island toward Alexandria Bay, with the Ontario shore on top and New York's Jefferson County below. The name undersells it, with 1,864 islands in the archipelago, and to count, an island has to stay above water all year and support at least one living tree.

How we make it

The land is layered maple, laser-cut along the shoreline and engraved with the towns, islands, parks and roads. Underneath, the water is hand-painted blue with the river's depth contours scored in, so the shoreline casts a real shadow. Then we frame it in 1/2" stained walnut. Every map is cut, painted and assembled by hand in our Newark, NY shop.
