Boston and the Massachusetts coast, cut in real wood

This one runs from Rockport and Gloucester on Cape Ann down past Boston Harbor to Scituate and Marshfield. Boston was founded in 1630, and Boston Common, set aside in 1634, is considered the oldest public park in the country. Out in the harbor, the Boston Harbor Islands national park area takes in 34 islands and peninsulas.

How we make it

The land is layered maple, laser-cut along the coastline and engraved with the towns and highways. Underneath, the ocean is hand-painted blue with its depth contours scored in, so every point and harbor casts a real shadow. Then we frame it in 1/2" stained walnut. Every map is cut, painted and assembled by hand in our Newark, NY shop.
