Little Seneca Lake, cut in real wood

Little Seneca Lake sits in Black Hill Regional Park in Boyds, Maryland. Completed in 1984, the 505-acre reservoir holds about four billion gallons and is kept as an emergency water supply for the Washington, D.C. area during droughts. Around it run the Hoyles Mill, Black Hill and Crystal Rock trails, with Waters Landing and Lake Churchill on the east side.

How we make it

The land is layered maple, laser-cut along the shoreline and engraved with the trails, parks and roads. Underneath, the water is hand-painted blue with the lake's depth contours scored in, so the shoreline casts a real shadow. Then we frame it in 1/2" stained walnut. Every map is cut, painted and assembled by hand in our Newark, NY shop.
