Where the Pamunkey and Mattaponi become the York

The town of West Point sits right where the Mattaponi and Pamunkey Rivers meet to form the York, which runs on about 40 miles to the Chesapeake Bay. This map follows the Pamunkey's big bends past Cumberland Marsh and White Oak Landing down to town, plus Eltham, Port Richmond and Plum Point.

How we make it

The land is layered maple, laser-cut along the shoreline and engraved with the roads, towns and landings. Underneath, the water is hand-painted blue with the rivers' depth contours scored in, so the shoreline casts a real shadow. Then we frame it in 1/2" stained walnut. Every map is cut, painted and assembled by hand in our Newark, NY shop.
