New York's biggest inland lake, cut in real wood

Oneida Lake is the largest lake lying wholly within New York State, about 21 miles long from Brewerton and Oneida Shores to South Bay. It covers roughly 80 square miles but averages only about 22 feet deep. The Oneida people called it Tsioqui, "white water," for the waves it kicks up on windy days.

How we make it

The land is layered maple, laser-cut along the shoreline and engraved with the roads, towns and parks. Underneath, the water is hand-painted blue with the lake's depth contours scored in, so the shoreline casts a real shadow. Then we frame it in 1/2" stained walnut. Every map is cut, painted and assembled by hand in our Newark, NY shop.
