Where Marines earn the title, cut in real wood

Marine recruits have trained on Parris Island since 1915, and more than a million Marines have earned the title here. This map shows the island with the Broad and Beaufort Rivers on either side, Port Royal and Shell Point to the north, The Legends at Parris Island golf course, and Fort Fremont across the water.

How we make it

The land is layered maple, laser-cut along the shoreline and engraved with the roads, towns and landmarks. Underneath, the water is hand-painted blue with the rivers' depth contours scored in, so the shoreline casts a real shadow. Then we frame it in 1/2" stained walnut. Every map is cut, painted and assembled by hand in our Newark, NY shop.
