A kettle lake high in the western Finger Lakes hills

Loon Lake sits in the Town of Wayland, Steuben County, near Cohocton. It's a glacier-made kettle lake almost 1,700 feet up in the western Finger Lakes hills, ringed by cottages and year-round homes, and busy with ice fishing and skating once it freezes.

How we make it

The land is layered maple, laser-cut along the shoreline and engraved with the roads and landmarks. Underneath, the water is hand-painted blue with the lake's depth contours scored in, so the shoreline casts a real shadow. Then we frame it in 1/2" stained walnut. Every map is cut, painted and assembled by hand in our Newark, NY shop.
