All of Lake Ontario, cut in real wood

The smallest of the Great Lakes by surface area but no lightweight: about 193 miles long, 53 miles wide and up to 802 feet deep, draining east into the St. Lawrence River. This map takes in the whole lake, from Toronto, Hamilton and Niagara around past Rochester and Oswego to Prince Edward County, Kingston and the start of the Thousand Islands, with the Ontario shore on top and New York below.

How we make it

The land is layered maple, laser-cut along the shoreline and engraved with the cities, towns and highways. Underneath, the water is hand-painted blue with the lake's depth contours scored in, so the shoreline casts a real shadow. Then we frame it in 1/2" stained walnut. Every map is cut, painted and assembled by hand in our Newark, NY shop.
